Mini-Benchmark:


Test Parameters:
Results are based on 1 minute of NTSC DV footage (720x480) rendered from After Effects 6.5 using the QuickTime Animation codec. The results compare Film Magic Pro and the demo version of Magic Bullet Look Suite 2.1 using a similar looking preset at default settings.

Test Machine:
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 6800 @ 2.93 GHZ
Memory: 2GBs
Hard Drive: Raptor 150GB 10k RPM

Magic Bullet GPU Rendering:
Using Magic Bullet's newly developed GPU Rendering engine, rendering performance was nearly as fast as Film Magic Pro but at a cost. In GPU mode The Look Suite rendered this same clip in 1:23 using an expensive video card but when tested with a lower performance card the rendering time was nearly 3 minutes longer. GPU rendering is also limited to 8bpc; if your project is 16bpc the rendering mode automatically switches to the slower engine.

How does FMP Compare to other Film-Look Software & Plug-ins?
To start, Film Magic Pro is not a plug-in like most film-look software packages; instead our collection uses precise color treatments built inside of After Effects.
This efficient method drastically improves render times compared with most other film-look packages. See Film Magic Pro Demonstration.

• Film Magic Pro does not need to be on render nodes on a network farm. This saves times and guarantees complete renders without lost frames due to missing plug-ins.
• Projects using Film Magic Pro™ can be viewed and modified on other machines without Film Magic Pro installed.

Does Film Magic Pro Perform Frame-Rate Conversions?
Unlike some other plug-ins, Film Magic Pro does not offer tools for
de-interlacing footage or performing frame rate conversions for interlaced footage to progressive scan. Most newer cameras already film at 24 frames per second so additional conversions are not necessary. If you need to perform a frame rate conversion we have a free tutorial that should help.
